An English Ivory Chess Set with a Cormandel, Ebony and Ivory Board, both by Leuchars, 19th century
one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings surmounted with Maltese crosses, queens with reeded balls and Fleur de Lys, bishops with open mitres, knights as carved horses’ heads, rooks as turrets with large flags, pawns with reeded ball finials, white king with stamp to the underside of the base: LEUCHARS...MANUFACTURER...38 PICCADILLY, with an ivory, ebony and coromandel inlaid chess board (the alternate squares in coromandel and ebony) paper Leuchars retail label to the reverse (some loss to the edges of the label) (2)
