An Anglo-Indian Export ivory chess set, Vizagapatam, circa 1830
one side in ivory, the other side in horn, kings surmounted with large crosses, queens with crowns, bishops with mitres, knights as horses’ heads, rooks as turrets bearing flags, pawns with balusters and ball finials, the king 11cm high, the pawn 4.9cm high.
