A French “Reverse Lyon” Fruitwood & Polished Bone Chess Set, 19th century

one side in a polished reddish brown, the other side in a darker polished nut brown (with the chamfered edges high-lighted with red stain) with decorative bone mounts, kings with pieced ogee finials, queens with pierced flat finials, bishops with elegant ball finials over canted knops, knights as horses’ heads, rooks as raised turrets, pawns with flat tops
