French Dieppe ‘Bust’ Chess Set, circa 1810
A French Bone (and Ivory) “Bust” Chess Set, Dieppe, circa 1810
one side stained red, the other side left natural, the Moors versus the French, predominantly bone, with small sections of ivory in places, kings and queens as monarchs and consorts, bishops as fou with pipes, knights as cavalry, rooks as turrets with spires, pawns as Moorish tribesmen and Napoleonic infantry, the king 7.5cm high, the pawn 5.6cm high.
