An English “Washington Pattern” Ivory Chess Set, Late 18th Century
one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings with multi knops and cogged crowns, queens with multi knops and ball finials, bishops as mitres, knights as arched horses’ heads, rooks as raised turrets with knopped battlements, the chessmen with wide turned circular bases, in a wooden box with a sliding lid
