A Fine English Ivory Chess set, 19th century
one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings with pierced crowns and surmounted with Maltese crosses, queens with Fleur de Lys, bishops with open split mitres, knights as horses’ heads, rooks as raised turrets with brickwork, pawns with baluster knops and ball finials
King: 10cm high
Pawn: 4.3cm high
