Reference: A very similar- if simpler- design to the Coalport Order of the Garter dinner service circa 1845-50, again, supplied by Nixon & Son of Windsor. Presumably, a later variation on the same pattern.
Individual Garter plates were decommissioned and given to royal staff as a reward for loyal service
