An ivory "tournament size" Staunton chess set by Jaques, circa 1900, one side stained red, the other side left natural, the king approx. 3 ½ inches (8.4cm) high, the pawn approx. 1 ¾ inch (4.3cm) high, in a red leather Jaques Sarcophagus shaped casket, circa 1900-1910, the front with Howard Staunton's facsimile signature in gilt, "The Staunton Chessmen" in gilt to the top lid, gilt-stamped Gothic handles to the sides, the green label with a rope-twist border: JAQUES & SON LTD, LONDON, ENGLAND, 19cm wide.
