The japanned tole frieze panels were possibly supplied by the Pontypool factory, owned and run by the Allgood family from the middle of the 19th century, until about 1820.
Japanned tole panels used on furniture are rare, but a beautiful side-cabinet (the design attributed to Frederick Crace and similar in feeling to the present table) was sold from the Collection of the Dukes of Devonshire, Chatsworth, by Sotheby’s, 5th October 2010, lot 370.
